The purpose of this project is to determine and explain the different uses of the words "space", "place", and "nature" in Japanese philosophy, since they cover a broad conceptual field. We suggest examining these uses in their respective contexts, in order to reconstruct a Japanese "topoligical" thought genealogy. The conceptual explanation work will be the starting point to later investigate the consequences derived from managing these concepts from different perspectives and disciplines. In this way, it will be possible to connect modern philosophical productions, such as Nishida Kitarō's "place logics" or Watsuji Tetsurō's idea of space, and Japanese pre-modern thought, of Buddhist, Shintoist, and Confucian origin, as well as its religious, artistic, and cultural expressions. In addition to being important to Japanese intellectual history understanding, this investigation has the purpose of connecting the ideas of space, place, and nature analyzed in recent studies made from a spacial perspective of different disciplines recently. In this way, our purpose is to offer conceptual resources coming from Japanese philosophical traditions to western students in order to rethink issues that are important to our current world (such as the space that takes part in our interpersonal relationships to the relations that we establish in our surroundings) and to open new investigation lines with that.
