This project explores the connections between mobility and food practices and cultures in colonial spaces and contact zones of western Mediterranean through the integration of new methodological and interpretative tools. This research presents three main lines. Firstly, it studies bodies, material cultures and technologies bonded to food with the goal of drawing those migration and mobility dynamics and
experiences that promoted or affected these spaces. Secondly, it analyzes diets and food practices and explores through them solidarities, inequalities or power relationships in contexts born or affected by mobility or migration. Finally, it examines processes of construction and representation of ontologies and memories related to migration or mobility experiences in which actively participate food, food practices or
their representations. The project covers a period between the 9th to the 3rd century BC and it analyzes particular Mediterranean settings, all them deeply affected by fluxes of migration and mobility of, among others, Aegean, Levantine or North African peoples. The project focuses on what has been called contact zones, a spatial dimension that integrates urban centers, emporion sites and rural landscapes
