Laia and Roser, two undergraduate students who are starting their studies at UPF, are the new protagonists of Pompeulàndia, the comic guide to enjoying the first days at Pompeu Fabra University. The interactive comic, which was successfully released last year, includes a new story in the shape of a series of ten chapters that take the protagonists through the different campuses and helps them to meet characters and deal with situations they are to encounter during their time at university.

The fictional series has been fully integrated into the guide, maintaining its characteristic pixel art aesthetics, as it seeks to help new students discover the workings and intimacies of UPF. The comic has enjoyed the collaboration of two alumni from the UPF bachelor’s degree in Audiovisual CommunicationRicardo Jornet as screenwriter and Carlos Batllo as illustrator and graphic animator.

The initiative is integrated as a further element within the UPF Reception Plan, which includes welcome briefings organized by the faculties and other sources of information, such as the Student Guide or the Guide to University Activities, so that new students have a smooth transition to their life at university.

An innovative way to connect with new students

Pompeulàndia came out in September last year so that new students joining UPF could get to know it informally and agreeably.

New generations of students consume information in a very different way to students ten years ago. Hence, the University has evolved with new students to connect with them in an innovative way. Through humour and an informal register, UPF aims to come across as being supportive, right from day one.

Apart from being well received by the public, Pompeulàndia was recognized at the European Excellence Awards 2020 as one of the best projects in the Digital publications category in which it was competing with other such diverse proposals as applications, blogs, magazines and podcasts.
