Mission and geo-strategic networks in Asia-Pacific: the case of Mindanao and Jolo (16th-18th centuries)

Starting from the study of Jesuit mission networks this project aims to prove that frontier missions in the Philippines (Mariana, Mindanao, Jolo) were not isolated or marginal spaces under Spanish sovereignty, but they were a part of a social, economical and mission network that covered the economy of the Pacific world with reference points existing in the New-Spanish northwest (for example, the Sierra Tarahumara and Pimeria Sonora missions) through the Chinese vessel that annually connected Philippines and Acapulco.
