Our PhD candidate, Batuhan Sayis, defended his thesis work this past Tuesday May 4, 2021. We congratulate him as he was awarded the grade of Excellent.

The PhD work by Batuhan was titled:

"Computational Modeling of User Activity in Full-Body Interaction Environments for ASC Children: Multimodal Analysis of Social Interaction Behaviors through Psychophysiology, System Activity, Video Coding, Questionnaires, and Body Cues"

His co-supervisors were:

  • Prof. Dr. Narcís Parés (Leader of the Full-Body Interaction Lab, UPF) supervising the work in HCI, specifically Full-Body Interaction.
  • Prof. Dr. Rafael Ramírez-Melendez (Leader of the Music and Machine Learning Lab, UPF) supervising Machine Learning and Computational Models.

The defence was done in front of the following board:

  • Chair: Prof. Dr. Hatice Gunes  (Leader of Affective Intelligence & Robotics Lab, Dep. of Computer Science and Technology, University of Cambridge)
  • Member: Prof. Dr. Mónica Tentori (HCI Researcher, CICESE, Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education at Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico)
  • Secretary: Prof. Dr. Sergi Jordà (Leader of Music & Advanced Interaction (MAIn) team, Music Technology Group, UPF)

They highlighted the huge amount of work done through his PhD research and awarded him the highest grade of Excellent.
