Oriol Amat, sole candidate for the post of UPF rector

Full professor of Financial Economics and Accounting at the UPF Department of Economics and Business, on 22 April he was definitively nominated as a candidate by the Electoral Board for the rectoral elections, which will be held exclusively by means of e-voting between 3 and 5 May 2021.

On 22 April, Oriol Amat, a full professor of Financial Economics and Accounting at the UPF Department of Economics and Business, definitively nominated as a candidate by the Electoral Board for the rectoral elections, which will be held exclusively by means of e-voting between 3 and 5 May 2021. His is the only candidature presented.

The campaign for the 2021 rectoral elections will run from 23 April to 2 May. On 5 May, the last day of voting, the votes will be counted and the results published. The following day, 6 May, the elected candidate will be declared, and following the period for lodging an appeal, the final declaration will be made.

Jaume Casals, current UPF rector, took up the post in May 2013, and has come to the end of his two terms, as established by the University Statutes.

Profile of the candidate

Oriol Amat i Salas has been a full professor of Financial Economics and Accounting at Pompeu Fabra University since 2001.

A PhD in Economic Sciences (UAB) and holding a bachelor’s degree and an MBA in Business Administration and Management (ESADE), he has been a lecturer at UPF since 1992. He has spent periods at several international centres of reference. His research includes the analysis of the success factors of organizations and ethical aspects of finance. He has supervised more than a dozen doctoral theses and, among other publications, has written scientific articles and over forty books.

His interest in the four main dimensions of academic life (research, knowledge transfer, teaching and management) has led him to hold several academic and management positions, within and without the University.

At UPF, he has been dean of the UPF Barcelona School of Management (2018-2021), director of the Department of Economics and Business (2003-2005), vice-rector for Economy, Information Systems and Services (1997-2001) and, specifically in the field of teaching, director of the Centre for Teaching Quality and Innovation (2006-2011). He has also actively collaborated with various societal institutions, such as the Association of Economists of Catalonia, of which he is dean; Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, PIMEC, and the Catalonia 2022 working group, which is designing post-covid strategy.
