Curricular internships

The curricular internship allows you to obtain academic credits (25 hours of internship = 1 credit)

  • TIC bachelor degrees:

· On the 3rd and 4th year you can do an optional internship (you can obtain -and enrol- from 1 to 15 credits).

  • Bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering:

· On the 4th year the student must enrol the compulsory internship of 6 credits (code: 24051)
· On the 3rd and 4th year you can do the optional internship (up to 9 credits). You can obtain (and enrol) from 1 credit to 9.

If you're doing a curricular internship, you need to enrol the credits during the autoenrolment period or during the enrolment automodification periods. If those periods are over, we will automatically enroll the credits from the Secretary once your internship agreement has been signed.

Extracurricular internships

Extracurricular internships will not be recognized with academic credits. These internships are voluntary and can be done during the degree. They are not part of the curriculum, but they will add experience. You can do extracurricular internship from 1st year.

  • The student must be enrolled in a university degree (in the year of the internship) in order to be able to do an extracurricular internship.

I have a job contract, can I recognize some credits?

If you have a job contract in an enterprise and you have been doing tasks that are related to your studies, you may be able to recognize credits, providing the practicum coordinator authorizes it and you have this work experience from 3rd course on (or 4th year if you want to obtain the Internship compulsory credits of Biomedical Engineering).

One one hand, you need to write an email to [email protected] with the following documents:

On ther other hand, your boss needs to send us the following document to [email protected] from their institutional email address:

You will find the synthesized information about how to do an internship, in PDF format, in the Servei de Carreres Professionals dossier. The UPF SCP (Servei de Carreres Professionals) manages the internships (curricular and extracurricular) and the job placement office.

If you want to do your internship abroad, you also have the possibility of doing an Erasmus internship.

KEY POINTS:

Where can I do the internship?

  • Internships can be done in an enterprise, academic or administrative unit, research group from the same university or institutions (national or foreign, both public and private). Here are some examples of the places where you could do an internship.
  • Before starting your internship, a tutor will be appointed to you. This tutor (from the enterprise where you will do the internship) will accompany you during your stay in the enterprise.

When can I do the internship?

  • You can start the internship anytime during the year – but you need to have the agreement of educational cooperation before starting the internship, either if it is curricular or extracurricular.

How many hours can I do?

  • The dedication and schedule of your internship needs to be compatible with your studies.
  • The agreement must not exceed the 8 hours of work per day, the 40 hours of work per week nor the 800 hours per academic year.
  • The agreement will finish before the start of the following academic year.

Can I have a wage?

  • According to the internships regulations, the internships must be remunerated (minimum 6,30 euros per hour - gross). In some specific cases, the internships may not be remunerated, but this will have to be approved by the internship coordinator.

If this is my final year, can I do the internship during the summer?

  • If you finish your studies in July, you can still do an internship during the summer (until the beginning of the following academic year), as long as you do not apply for the official degree certificate. From the moment you make the application to receive your official degree, you will automatically lose the student status and therefore you will not be able to do an internship.
