Donations for the D-RISC project for people affected by low back pain

Degeneration of the intervertebral discs (IDD) is a rheumatological problem closely related to low back pain that affects up to 85% of the population and whose chronicity (approximately 5-10% of the population) causes more work disability than any other disease.

Were you aware that low back pain:

  • Affects up to 85% of the population.
  • It is the leading cause of incapacity for work.
  • It is the fourth non-infectious ailment that most impairs the quality of life of people over the age of 25.

Even so, people affected by chronic low back pain are completely helpless and often feel that they are not offered solutions to their health problems.

Therefore, from the BCN-MedTech team at the UPF, we are launching a donation campaign for the D-RISC project, developed jointly by researchers and groups of citizens and patients. In addition, the Spanish Federation of Science and Research (FECYT) supports this campaign.

D-RISC aims to develop an intervertebral disc degeneration risk simulator, which can be used by the user to:

  • Better understand the degenerative mechanisms that cause daily disability.
  • Better explain to others what is happening to him/her.
  • Be more proactive and preventive in the management of their own health.

Donations can be made through the FECYT's precipita platform and will be subject to the Spanish law of patronage, with 80% tax relief for individuals and 35% for corporate tax.
