The cut-off marks of three of the bachelor’s degrees offered by Pompeu Fabra are among the ten highest

They are the bachelor’s degrees in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (12.71); Medicine (12.70), taught in conjunction with the UAB; and Global Studies (12.67). Applications exceed places for 24 of the 29 degrees offered by the University.

UPF, with regard to its integrated studies (including the new bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology and Economic Analysis, taught in conjunction with the UPC, which coordinates it) offered 2,490 new places for the 2018-2019 academic year for which 4,712 applications have been received, giving a ratio between demand and supply of 1.89, practically two applications for every place on offer.

18 of the 29 undergraduate courses offered by UPF (62%) have a cut-off mark higher than 9 (the maximum score is 14). Three of these bachelor’s degrees are among the 10 that have the highest cut-off marks in the Catalan university system: Philosophy, Politics and Economics, taught jointly with the UAB, with 12.71, comes in fifth position; Medicine, also in conjunction with the UAB, with 12.70 in sixth, and Global Studies with 12.67 in eighth place.

It is notable that the bachelor’s degrees in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and in Global studies are the only two qualifications in the fields of the humanities and political and social sciences among the top ten cut-off marks for the Catalan university system, which is led by the UAB’s bachelor’s degree in Physics and Mathematics, with 13.31.

Another three UPF bachelor’s degrees have a cut-off mark higher than 12: International Business Economics (12.25), the new bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology and Economic Analysis (UPC-UPF), with 12.102, and the bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering (12.002).

The cut-off mark for twelve bachelor’s degrees has been higher than 10 (and less than 12), one more than last academic year

It should be noted that for twelve bachelor’s degrees the cut-off mark has been higher than 10 (and less than 12), one more than last academic year, and that virtually all bachelor’s degrees with a cut-off grade lower than 9 have seen it increase with respect to 2017-2018, reinforcing the idea that students increasingly achieve higher cut-off marks to get into the University. Only the bachelor’s degrees in Humanities, Applied Languages and Translation and Interpretation (German, French and Catalan Sign Language) have an access grade of 5.

Regarding affiliated centres the cut-off grade has increased for most degrees and 14 have a cut-off grade higher than 5. Physiotherapy (ECS-Tecnocampus) (9.46) is the study with the highest cut-off mark, followed by Business and International Marketing (ESCI) (9.41), and the Nursing degrees taught at Hospital del Mar (8.41) and in Mataró (8.06). Globally, the affiliated centres have had a first-choice demand of 1,335, that is 1.4% more than last year, with a slight increase in the ratio between demand and supply, which stands at 0.98%.

Success of the new bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology and Economic Analysis and stable demand in general

The new bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology and Economic Analysis, taught jointly by UPF and the UPC (which coordinates it), has obtained good results, both in terms of the demand and supply ratio (139 applications for 40 places) and the cut-off mark (12.102).

Overall, first-choice demand to enter the University has not changed greatly compared to last year: itis stable for Medicine, since for the 2017-2018 academic year this degree was in exceptional demand with more than 800 applications, with 397 this year. This figure makes it the second degree most applied for, behind Law, which is in highest demand (with 457), and ahead of Business Administration and Management (382), and Advertising and Public Relations (318).

For 83% of the studies on offer at UPF demand exceeds supply (24 of 29 degrees) and for eleven studies the ratio is greater than two

For 83% of the studies on offer at UPF demand exceeds supply (24 of 29 degrees) and for eleven studies the ratio is greater than two: Medicine (which has 6.6 applications per place); Advertising and Public Relations; Global Studies; Philosophy, Politics and Economics; International Business Economics; Audiovisual Communication; Journalism, and the double bachelor’s degree in and Public Prevention Policies and Law.

According to the data presented yesterday, 11 July, by the Secretariat for Universities and Research, a total of 46,956 students have pre-enrolled for access to public universities and the University of Vic-Central University of Catalonia for the 2018-2019 academic year, an increase of 1.96% over last year. Almost nine out of every ten pre-enrolled students have been assigned a study centre, and of these, almost seven out of ten will be able to study their teaching of choice at their first-choice centre.
