Last October, the UPF signed a new business chair with DE-CIX, the global operator of Internet traffic exchange points. This agreement establishes the basis for the creation of the IX Academy and other activities related to teaching and research in the framework of Internet protocols.

During the visit, the students were able to see what these neutral Internet traffic exchange points are like, where telecommunications operators and content providers converge to make high-speed communication possible. The students have been accompanied by the teacher Miquel Oliver and the visit has been guided by Alberto Egido and David Ayllon from the company DE-CIX as well as Toni Borràs from BitNAP. They were able to see the current trends in data centres.

Within the framework of the DE-CIX Chair, it is planned to repeat this type of meetings that allow a more practical knowledge of the infrastructures that facilitate the interconnection of high-speed Internet and that demand highly qualified professionals in this field.
