Jordi Galí is expected to receive this recognition in the course of the annual meeting of the AEA, to be held in Chicago from 3 to 5 January 2021.

Jordi Galí (Barcelona, 1961) is expected to receive this recognition in the course of the annual meeting of the AEA (the oldest and most important professional organization in the world in the field of economics, founded in 1885), which is to be held between 3 and 5 January 2021 in the city of Chicago (Illinois, USA).

Besides Jordi Galí, the other three economists distinguished as Foreign Honorary Members at the 2020 edition of the awards of the AEA are Rachel Griffith (United Kingdom), Fumio Hayashi (Japan) and Thomas Piketty (France).

Since 1976, when the first edition of the awards was held, the list has been joined by a total of 44 academics, including Andreu Mas-Colell (1997), emeritus full professor at the UPF, who was until now the only economist included from Spain.

Foreign honorary members are elected by the executive committee (upon recommendation by the honours and awards committee) of the American Economic Association. There is a limited number of positions: to be distinguished, another member of the association must have passed away.
