Two members of the UPF community have been elected Fellows of the Econometrics Society. The Society announced the results of its 2019 elections in early November, with UPF School of Economics and Business professors Jan Eeckhout and Barbara Rossi amongst the newest Fellows.

Founded in 1930, the Econometric Society is an international society of academic economists and is one of the most prestigious societies in the economics field. The Society conducts annual elections to vote for new Fellows, an honourary designation highly valued by members of the economics profession. Besides this, the Society publishes three journals – Econometrica, Quantitative Economics, and Theoretical Economics – and organises scientific meetings around the world.

Prof. Jan Eeckhout is ICREA research Professor of Economics at the UPF. He studies the macroeconomic implications of market power, as well as labor markets. His work has been published in the American Economic Review, Econometrica, the Review of Economic Studies, the Journal of Political Economy, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, and has been supported by several government grants, including funding from the National Science Foundation (US) and the European Research Council (Starting and Advanced Grants). Prof. Eeckhout has been the chairman of the Department of Economics and Business at the UPF, and he is fellow of the European Economic Association and a member of the Academia Europaea. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the London School of Economics in 1998.

Prof. Barbara Rossi is ICREA research Professor of Economics at the UPF. Prof. Rossi specialises in the fields of time series econometrics, as well as applied international finance and macroeconomics. Her current research focuses on forecasting and macroeconometrics, and she has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Marie Curie Fellowship program, the Spanish Ministry of Research, and the European Research Council. She was the Program Chair for the 2016 Econometric Society European Summer Meetings and the 2014 International Association of Applied Econometrics Conference. She is a Fellow of the International Association of Applied Econometrics, a CEPR Fellow, and currently serves as a Director of the International Association of Applied Econometrics. She received her Ph.D. from Princeton University in 2001.
