UPF places Communication and Economics in the top 50 worldwide in the 2024 Shanghai ranking of disciplines
Communication and Economics climb to 42nd and 46th, respectively, and are joined in the top 100 by Political Sciences, in the 51-75 bracket. Together with Statistics, these three subjects at UPF are ranked in first place in Spain, while the University places a total of sixteen disciplines evaluated by the ranking among the best in the world.
The recently published Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2024 places three disciplines taught at Pompeu Fabra University among the top 100 in the world, with a significant leap compared to the positions they occupied in the previous edition of this prestigious classification.
Particularly noteworthy is the case of Communication, rising to 42nd position (last year it was in the 101-150 bracket); Economics ranks 46th (in 2023 it fell in the 51-75 bracket), while Political Sciences has returned to the 51-75 bracket (101-150 in the previous edition).
UPF puts Communication, Economics and Political Sciences, together with Statistics (101-150 bracket), in first place among universities in Spain, with a total of sixteen disciplines evaluated by the ranking featuring among the best universities in the world.
The other disciplines in which UPF scores are Biotechnology (101-150, and second in Spain); Biological Sciences, Finance and Public Health (151-200); Human Biological Sciences and Medical Technology (201-300); Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences and Ecology (301-400), and finally, Psychology , Management, and Environmental Science & Engineering (401-500).
As for the ranking’s best positioned institutions worldwide, Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), in the United States, have the most disciplines in first position, with fourteen and fifteen respectively.
55 disciplines analysed, divided into five areas
The Shanghai Rankingʼs Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2024, includes more than 1,900 universities from 96 different countries, and ranks them in 55 disciplines, grouped into five areas: natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences.
The indicators measured are: number of publications, number of publications in high-impact journals, normalized citation impact, percentage of publications with international co-authorship, and awards won by teaching and research staff.
