UPF scores in a total of fifteen disciplines and has obtained very similar results to those of the previous edition, keeping its place among the institutions at the top of the table.

Pompeu Fabra University ranks among the top 100 in the world for four disciplines (one more than last year). Economics and Econometrics, for which UPF ranks 26th in the world (24th last year), Accounting and Finance (in 96th place, while in the previous edition it was in the 101-150 bracket), and Politics and International Studies and Social Policy and Administration, for which it remains in the 51-100 bracket.

Economics and Econometrics ranks 26th in the world, Accounting and Finance 96th, and Politics and International Studies and Social Policy and Administration remain in the 51-100 bracket.

Among the best 150 in the world (101-150) we find a further six disciplines: Linguistics, Law, Philosophy, Communication and Media Studies, Sociology, and Development Studies (which did not score in the last edition and falls in the 101-120 bracket this time).

The other disciplines for which UPF scores are Modern Languages (151-200), Business Management and Administration, and Biological Sciences (both in the 201-250 bracket), Medicine (251-300), and Mathematics (301-350).

With regard to the general areas of the ranking, grouped under the umbrella of the different disciplines, UPF scores in four of the ranking’s five areas: Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences and Medicine, and Social Sciences and Management (the only area in which UPF does not score is Natural Sciences).

A further six disciplines are added to the top 10 state-wide: Biological Sciences and Accounting and Finance (both in fourth position); Law and Business Management and Administration (both in 5th place); Medicine (6th), and Modern Languages (8th); while Mathematics comes in 11th place.

Regarding UPF’s position, state-wide, in respect of the general areas, Social Sciences and Management are ranked third; Arts and Humanities, seventh; Life Sciences and Medicine, eighth, and Engineering and Technology, fourteenth.

A ranking structured according to five indicators, in which UPF excels for citations

To provide information about the highest valued, most influential universities in each subject, the Ranking uses five indicators: an academic reputation survey, a survey of employer reputation, citations received by publications by each individual lecturer, the h-index, which measures the output and the impact of publications, and the International Research Network (IRN), which measures stable research partnerships in the five major thematic areas of the ranking.

Of the four general areas in which UPF scores, Social Sciences and Management achieves the highest score, at 86.7 for citations, 78.7 for academic reputation, 62 for employer reputation, 78.5 for the h-index, and 58 for IRN, and an aggregate score of 73.2. In the other three areas, UPF attains global scores of 66.8 (Arts and Humanities), 60.9 (Engineering and Technology), and 61.1 (Life Sciences and Medicine), again with citations being the indicator for which it achieves the best results in all of them.

On a global scale, Anglo-Saxon universities lead the five general areas of the ranking. Harvard University (USA) is most noteworthy, coming first for Arts and Humanities, Life Sciences and Medicine, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences and Management, while Engineering and Technology is led by MIT.
