The five new professors starting this fall bring diverse perspectives and cutting-edge approaches
The UPF Department of Economics and Business is thrilled to announce the addition of five distinguished tenure-track professors to the department in the coming academic year, enriching both our faculty and our academic programmes.
Chiara Aina is an accomplished economist currently serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University. She will join Universitat Pompeu Fabra as Professor in 2024. Chiara earned her PhD in Economics from the University of Zurich, where she also contributed as a Teaching Assistant. Her research, which includes publications in renowned journals such as Games & Economic Behavior, explores behavioral economics through experimental methods. Chiara has received numerous awards and scholarships, and was selected for the prestigious REStud North America Tour 2023. Additionally, she actively participates in academic peer reviews and has presented her work at prestigious international conferences.
Or Avishay-Rizi is an emerging scholar in Business Economics and Strategy, currently set to complete his PhD at Tel Aviv University's Coller School of Management in May 2024. He has accepted a position as Assistant Professor at the UPF starting in September 2024. Or's research focuses on Quantitative Marketing, Industrial Organisation, and Applied Microeconomics. He has contributed to various papers, including studies on regulatory impacts and market responses. Or is also a recipient of multiple academic scholarships and awards, reflecting his commitment to research excellence.
Alessandro Ferrari, Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Zürich since 2020, specialises in Macroeconomics, with interests in Networks, International Trade, and Industrial Organisation. He earned his PhD from the European University Institute in 2020. Alessandro's scholarly contributions include pivotal studies on Euro adoption and subsidy competition in the US. His academic endeavors extend to supervising PhD candidates, managing the UZH Macro Reading Group, and leading seminars. Additionally, he has been recognised with awards such as the Vilfredo Pareto Prize for his thesis.
Gabriela Stockler is an economist affiliated with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where she completed her PhD in 2023. Gabriela's research primarily explores Network Economics, Finance, and Applied Microeconomic Theory, with key works such as “Asset Pricing and Re-sale in Networks.” She has contributed to the field through various teaching roles, presentations at prestigious economic conferences, and as a recipient of multiple scholarships and fellowships. Gabriela is currently serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow at New York University Abu Dhabi.
Jingjing Yu is a distinguished researcher currently serving as an external doctoral researcher at Universität Hamburg. She began her doctoral journey at the Dalian University of Technology and later pursued a joint-PhD programme at the Institute for Information Systems (IWI), where she obtained her PhD in June 2023. Jingjing's research focuses on transportation planning, supply chain management, and sustainable development through network optimisation and intelligent algorithms. She has contributed significantly to journals and conferences, notably in optimising port operations and environmental strategies in maritime settings. Jingjing is actively involved in the Ahoi-Digital project, enhancing regional and trans-modal transportation solutions.
