Prof. Teresa Garcia-Milà

Prof. Teresa Garcia-Milà was recently awarded a Narcís Monturiol Medal by the Generalitat de Catalunya, recognizing her research accomplishments in macroeconomics, public economics, and regional economics. The Generalitat awarded the medal to 19 researchers in 2018.

Besides teaching economics at the UPF, Prof. Garcia-Milà also serves as the director of the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics (GSE), and is associate researcher at the Center for Research in International Economics (CREI). Her research analyses the role of public investment in economic growth, and its limitations reducing territorial inequalities.

Prof. Garcia-Milà is not the first UPF professor of economics to be awarded the medal: Prof. Andreu Mas-Colell received the medal in 1989, and Prof. Jordi Galí in 2015.

The award was begun in 1982 to distinguish people and entities that contribute to the development of science and technology in Catalonia. The medal is named after inventor, artist, and engineer Narcís Monturiol i Estarriol, who lived in Barcelona during the 1800s and who made significant advances in submarine engineering.
