Workshop on the Political Economy of Development and Conflict

The sixth edition of the Workshop on Political Economy of Development and Conflict was held from May 17-18, 2018, at the UPF Ciutadella campus in Barcelona.

The yearly event showcases the latest research on current and historical development and conflict through aspects of global politics and economy.

The workshop consists of a series of papers presented over two days by researchers from around the world. Authors first present their papers to attendees, and are followed by discussion and comments from professors from the UPF and other participating institutions.

The event is organised each year by Profs. Antonio Ciccone, José Garcia Montalvo, and Marta Reynal-Querol.

Presenters at this year's workshop included:

  • Eli Berman (UC San Diego)
  • Leo Bursztyn (University of Chicago)
  • Omer Moav (University of Warwick)
  • Rohini Pande (Harvard Univeristy)
  • Diego Puga (CEMFI)
  • Pablo Querubin (MIT Economics)
  • James Snyder (Harvard University)
  • Joachim Voth (University of Zurich)
  • Romain Wacziarg (UCLA)

The workshop was organised by the UPF in collaboration with the Barcelona GSE, the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), the European Research Council (ERC), and the Institute of Political Economy and Governance (IPEG), and was sponsored this year by the Fundación Ramón Areces.
