Prof. Robin Hogarth announced this month his intentions to step down as Director of the UPF's Graduate Programme in Economics, Finance and Management (GPEFM) PhD Programme. Starting next September, Prof. José Apesteguia will take over the role of Director.

Known as an involved and dedicated educator, Prof. Hogarth has directed the PhD programme for nearly eight years, guiding many students through their studies with patience and firmness.

Prof. Hogarth has lead 18 doctoral theses at the UPF, and more than 30 throughout his career. Talented PhD students from all over the world have attended the UPF programme under his supervision, and graduates are consistently placed at top banks, institutions, and organisations.

He assumed directorship of the PhD programme in 2010 from former Director Prof. Jaume Ventura. Prof. Hogarth has lectured at the UPF as professor of Behavioural Economics since 2000, and is one of the most cited researchers in the department. He is ranked amongst the top 5% of economics researchers by citation in the world.

Previously, Prof. Hogarth served from 1993 to 1998 as Deputy Dean of the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago. Interested in research on the psychology of judgment and decision-making processes, he is a former president of both the Society for Judgment and Decision Making (in the USA) and the European Association for Decision Making.

He has published several book chapters and books, including Judgment and Choice (Wiley, 2nd ed., 1987) and Educating Intuition (University of Chicago Press, 2001). He has also regularly published articles in leading professional journals such as The Psychological Bulletin, Psychological Review, Management Science, Journal of the American Statistical Association, and Journal of Risk and Uncertainty.

In his announcement letter to the department, Prof. Hogarth thanked all faculty, students, and staff for their cooperation in keeping the PhD programme at the forefront of doctoral education in Europe.
