24th Annual Congress of the European Economic Association and the 64th European Meeting of the Econometric Society (EEA-ESEM 09)

The Barcelona Graduate School of Economics (Barcelona GSE) hosted, from 23rd to 27th August, the 24th Annual Congress of the European Economic Association and the 64th European Meeting of the Econometric Society (EEA-ESEM 09), the most important scientific meeting held outside the United States. The meeting gathered together 1.800 experts on economics from around the world, including academics from universities and research centers and central banks, and took place from 23rd to 25th August at the Campus de Bellaterra of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and on 26th and 27th August at the Campus Ciutadella of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.The intensive scientific programme included 1.443 presentations, 48 invited sessions, six plenary sessions and one institutional session, featured speeches by President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, and the Catalan Minister of Economy and Finance, Antoni Castells, by Professors Faruk Gul (Princeton University), Roger Myerson (University of Chicago), Nicholas Stern (LSE), Guido Imbens (Harvard University) and Pinelopi Goldberg (Princeton University), and by the Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, Charles Bean.The Programme Committee Chair on behalf of the EEA was Prof. Antonio Ciccone (ICREA-UPF y Barcelona GSE). This event constitutes the first big international activity organized by the Barcelona GSE. Among the Congress sessions more than 20 academics from the Barcelona GSE and the Department of Economic and Business of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra presented their research.
