Teresa Garcia-Milà, professor of Economics at the Department of Economics and Business of UPF, will be appointed to the Board of Directors of Banc de Sabadell at the next shareholders’ general meeting, to be held at the end of March. Garcia-Milà will join the bank’s steering committee in the role of independent advisor and will fill the place of Juan Manuel Desvalls, who is retiring. With her appointment the number of directors will remain at twelve. This new incorporation of an academic nature contrasts with the two previous appointments who came from the field of business: Isak Andic from Mango and José Manuel Lara Bosch from Grup Planeta.

Garcia-Milà, who gained a doctorate in 1987 from the University of Minnesota, has been professor at the Department of Economics and Business of UPF since 1995 and researcher at Centre de Recerca en Economia Internacional (CREI) since 1999. Amongst other positions, Garcia-Milà is also advisor to Enagas, economic coordinator at Agencia Nacional de Evaluación y Perspectiva (ANEP) and member of the board of directors of the Cercle d’Economia.

For the shareholders who attend the general meeting on March 29, the appointment of Garcia-Mila will not be the only news. The financial group, presided by Josep Oliu, will propose splitting the shares by a proportion of 4 to 1, trying to give the shares greater liquidity and also hoping to attract new shareholders. With this split, the nominal value of a Banc de Sabadell share will change from 0.5 euros to 0.125 euros.
