Antoni Sureda, a PhD student at the UPF Graduate Program in Economics, Finance, and Management, has received a grant from the Fundación Banco Herrero to carry out a research project on the transactions done by managers on their own firm stocks, known as Insider Trading. In this study, which will be included in his PhD dissertation, Sureda analyzes the effects of grating insider trading rights to managers as a component of their compensation packages.

Antoni Sureda-Gomila (Manacor, 1978) earned his BSc in Mathematics at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (class of 1996-2000) and his MSc in Economics at UPF (class 2002-2003). Currently he is a PhD candidate at UPF Graduate Program in Economics, Finance, and Management (GPEFM) and enjoys a FPI grant from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science. Last year, Sureda spent six months at the Economics Department of Harvard University working on his dissertation, “Essays on the behaviour and regulation of Insider Trading”.

The Fundación Banco Herrero annually issues 10 grants to promote scientific research in social sciences. A couple of years ago, Judit Monturiol, another GPEFM student who currently has a position at Univesitat Autònoma de Barcelona, also received one of these grants.
