inpact The main aim of INPACT, " Innovative peptides against cancer and pathogenic bacteria, with advances in science, biopharmaceutical drug development, product market targeting, training, and communication", is to perform the pre-clinical development of innovative drugs with specific formulations against certain types of cancer, such as prostate cancer, and certain pathogenic bacteria, like Staphylococcus aureus.

INPACT is a RISE (Research and Innovation Staff Exchange) project, within the Marie Curie actions of the Horizon 2020 European framework programme for research.

The project Consortium is composed of four academic partners (Australia, Brazil, Spain and Portugal) and three technology companies, two Spanish and one Portuguese, that contribute their own technologies to obtain innovative drugs.  David Andreu, head of the Proteomics and Protein Chemistry research group of the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences (CEXS), is participating as an expert academic partner in peptides.

The principal goal is to develop synthetic cell penetrating peptides, such as, for example, derivatives of proteins from the dengue virus, as well as ultra-resistant cyclic peptides, in order to transfer them to the industrial partners that are expert in patented drug technologies based on peptide technology and against cancer.

It is hoped that this exchange of knowledge and expertise will provide society with new resistant peptides that allow the trans-barrier delivery of medicines and antibiotics.

In addition, the research and development project includes business schools (IESE, Barcelona), scientific communication centres (Ciência Hoje, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and international experts in funding for projects of universities of excellence (Stanford University).

This consortium is an ideal environment for young researchers to acquire knowledge and experience in science, technology, entrepreneurship, business and communication, and so that they can proactively adapt their professional career in a perspective of lifelong learning. The project has a total budget of one million euros and will have a duration of four years, as of its inception on 1 February 2015.
