UPF is organizing the first edition of i-Week, a broad reflection concerning educational innovation within the university environment

The conference, to be held online between 12 and 16 April and open to anyone who is interested, will involve international experts. It will include panel discussions, public presentations of innovative projects and initiatives, and will conclude with the presentation of EDvolution, the University’s new educational framework.

The Center for Learning Innovation and Knowledge (CLIK) at Pompeu Fabra University is organizing the first edition of  i-Week. Educational Innovation Week, a conference seeking to give visibility to and promote university teaching activity, at a time when the pandemic has changed the way teaching and learning take place at universities, and will involve international experts.

The conference, open to the whole university community and anyone interested (after registering), will take place online via the Zoom platform, between 12 and 16 April 2021 (afternoons, except on the last day, when it will be held in the morning) and is structured according to five independent sessions (one per day). Its main goals are to share the views of the experts and the projects that UPF teaching staff is carrying out inside and outside the classroom; to reflect on the latest trends in educational innovation and present some of the most innovative projects being carried out at the University.

The opening of i-Week will take place on 12 April at 4.30 pm, with a welcome and presentation by Josep Lluís Martí, UPF vice-rector for innovation projects, and Manel Jiménez, commissioner for education and communication projects. This will be followed by the panel discussion titled “Collaborative learning in blended environments”, by Aaron Barth (Dialectic Solutions, USA), Annoesjka Cabo (Delft University of Technology, Netherlands), and Pierre Dillenbourg (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne, Switzerland), chaired by Albert Sangrà (Open University of Catalonia).

Different formats to promote educational innovation, with the presentation of EDvolució on the final day

The  i-Week programme will include panel discussions, public presentations of innovative projects and initiatives, and other activities to boost innovation  in university education. Apart from the opening day on 12 April, the rest of the days will focus on the “Educational Innovation Network at UPF. Transformative projects inside and outside the classroom”, which will consist of three panel discussions on skills-based learning; emerging methodologies and collaborative learning (13 April); the panel discussion “Virtually present: collaborative learning in distance environments”, with presentations by Linda Castañeda (University of Murcia), Fernando Trujillo (University of Granada), and Dionís Guzmán (ISDI, digital business school), chaired by Davinia Hernández (DTIC-UPF) (14 April) and the presentation of several UPF cross-disciplinary projects (15 April).

The conference to close i-Week (16 April) will be dedicated to the presentation of EDvolució, UPF’s new educational framework, on which the University has been working in recent years.

It will feature presentations by Jaume Casals, UPF rector; Josep Lluís Martí, vice-rector for innovation projects; Manel Jiménez, commissioner for education and communication projects; Mònica Figueras, vice-rector for social commitment and equality projects; Pablo Pareja, vice-rector for projects related to faculty affairs; Pilar Medina, coordinator of the Open Degree, UPF minor and UPF Sènior; and Ester Oliveras, rector’s delegate for sustainability.

Josep Lluís Martí explains that educational innovation is crucial for UPF: “As an education centre that seeks educational excellence, the University needs to permanently promote teaching innovation initiatives that allow our educational models to evolve towards a new educational framework that puts the student at the centre, reflects on the best formats and methodologies, as well as the best teaching resources and tools that adapt to the needs of each student to guide their learning and develop the skills they require to live and work in the world of the 21st century. At UPF, we call this new educational framework EDvolution”.
