L'Institut d'Història organizes the 50th Conference of the Association for Spanish and Portuguese Historical Studies

Some 250 scholars from the United States and Europe will visit the Ciutadella campus from 10 to 13 July to discuss recent and innovative topics around this discipline.

From 10 to 13 July, the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and its Institut d'Història (IUHJVV) will host the 50th Annual Conference of the Association for Spanish and Portuguese Historical Studies (ASPHS). For three days, some 250 scholars from North America and Europe will descend upon the Campus de la Ciutadella to discuss the most recent and innovative scholarship in the field.

The program includes 65 parallel sessions over three days, and is highlighted by the plenary session, “ASPHS@50: A Video Commemoration”; to be held on Friday 12 July at 12.45 in the auditori of Ciutadella campus. Organized by Carla Rahn-Phillips (University of Minnesota), the session includes interviews with founding and early members.

A pre-conference seminar will be given by Rebecca Scott (University of Michigan) in the Auditori Mercè Rodoreda on Wednesday 10 July at 3pm, sponsorised by Research Group on Empires, Metropolises, and Extra-European Societies (GRIMSE). The conference is organized by Stephen Jacobson, director of the IUHJVV.

The conference brings together specialists in the medieval, early modern and modern periods, and features distinguished scholars and bright young talents. Previous venues include New York University, Johns Hopkins, the University of California at San Diego, and the Universidade de Lisboa. Members of the UPF community are welcome to drop in on sessions.
