On 3 and 4 May 2018, Pompeu Fabra University is to host a meeting of Europaeum, a network of European universities that collaborate in the areas of mobility, teaching and research, which UPF joined in 2012.

Within the framework of the gathering, several meetings will be held of the network’s governing bodies and two round tables open to the entire university community have been arranged. The two discussions, dealing with current issues that are crucial to universities in Europe, will be held at the auditorium of the Mercè Rodoreda building on the Ciutadella campus and require prior registration.

The first, Brexit: What does it mean for the common European research space?, will take place on 3 May, at 5pm, and will deal with the consequences of the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union with regard to research. It will be led by professors Lenka Rovna (chair), and Andrew Graham and Hartmut Mayer, both from the University of Oxford.

The second, Universities in an Era of Rising Illiberal Populism, will take place on 4 May, at 11am, and will revolve around populism and its effects on universities. It will be chaired by Jaume Casals, UPF rector, and will enjoy the participation of lecturers Carsten Schneider, of the Central European University; Donatella Campus, of the University of Bologna; and Will Hutton, of the University of Oxford.

During the proceeds, Europaeum’s executive committee and its academic council are to meet, both governing bodies of the network, and both presided over by Andrew Graham (University of Oxford). Jaume Casals, UPF rector, and Isabel Valverde, vice-rector for projects for the internationalization of the University and international relations, belong to the academic council, which comprises the rectors and officers responsible for academic policy and internationalization at the member institutions.

The Europaeum network was founded in 1992 and last year celebrated its 25^th anniversary. It facilitates the generation of bilateral or multilateral initiatives of mobility, joint teaching and research in a wide range of issues related to Europe. It currently consists of ten prestigious universities: Oxford (United Kingdom), Leiden (Netherlands), Bologna (Italy), Bonn (Germany), Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne (France), Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic), Helsinki (Finland), Jagiellonian in Krakow (Poland), Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva (Switzerland), and Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona).
