Eugeni Bregolat durant la seva ponència "The influence and power of China and the emerging countries" is the title which presented the second session of UPF World Debates, a cycle of conferences and debates organized by the Board of Trustees of Pompeu Fabra University, with the aim of reflecting on the major challenges of our times under the close scrutiny of its key players.

The session was held yesterday,  7 July, at 7p.m. at the auditorium of Ciutadella campus, and enjoyed the participation of three distinguished figures: Eugeni Bregolat, Spanish ambassador to China, as a guest speaker; and two UPF lecturers as host speakers: economist José García Montalvo and sinologist Manel Ollé.

Carles Castells, chairman of the Academic Committee of UPF's Board of Trustees, opened the session after which the three speakers presented. Following the speeches, a debate was begun with the public in attendance. Milagros Pérez Oliva, journalist and chairlady of the Promotion Committee of UPF's Board of Trustees, was given the task of introducing the speakers and chairing the debate.

Finally, Josep Joan Moreso , UPF rector, concluded the session, open to the members of the university community and the general public, which was broadcasted live via Internet on the website of the Board of Trustees.

An initiative to foment social progress

Aspecte que oferia l'auditori durant la sessióThe UPF World Debates, which dealt in their first edition with leadership and excellence at times of greatest competition (with chef Ferran Adrià as guest speaker) seek to give an incentive to new ideas and new leaderships in international debate, within a framework of joint participation between society and the Catalan university.

The main players are, on the one hand, the social figures and world opinion leaders, as guest speakers, and on the other, internationally renowned UPF lecturers and researchers, participating as guests and speakers on the different academic disciplines.

With this incentive, UPF shows its commitment to progress and social development. And it does so with the decided collaboration of its Board of Trustees, the body representing the interests of Catalan society and whose goal is to permanently improve the quality, the innovation and the international prestige of teaching, research and knowledge transfer.
