Güerri Ferrández, Cristina

Cristina Güerri holds a PhD in Law (Criminology)Currently, she is Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Criminology at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Her research has mainly focused on prisons and imprisonment, where she has worked on topics like quality of prison life, prison officers, imprisoned migrants, body searches, or complaints and requests.

Previously, Cristina was a Juan de la Cierva - Formación Postdoctoral Fellow in Criminology at the Andalusian Interuniversity Institute of Criminology at Universidad de Málaga (2020-2022) and an Academic Visitor at the Centre for Criminology of the University of Oxford (april-june 2022).

Her thesis "De carceleros a ayudantes: El rol de los funcionarios de interior en los centros penitenciarios españoles", published by Atelier (2020), was carried out at Universitat Pompeu Fabra under the supervision of Elena Larrauri and received the mark Excellent Cum Laude. Cristina was awarded a four-year FPU Scholarship for the Formation of University Professors (2014, Spanish Ministry of Education) so she could carry out her thesis as a Predoctoral Fellow. During her doctorate, Cristina did a research stay at University College Dublin (3 months, 2018) and was selected to become a Europaeum Scholar (2018-2019).

Cristina also holds a degree in Criminology and Public Prevention Policies (2010-2014, UPF) and was awarded a National Prize of University Education after graduating with one of the best academic records in Spain in the academic year 2013-2014 (Spanish Ministry of Education). As an undergraduate student, she received a fellowship as research assistant (2013-2014, AGAUR) and participated in the Erasmus Programme at Utrecht University during one semester (2014).
