ApS is a methodology aimed at achieving meaningful learning, connected to society and to respond to a real need in the environment. The projects developed with this methodology, in both curricular and extracurricular activities, offer the student educational experiences of a transversal nature. They also bring into play the diversity of perspectives in the relationship of the university community (specifically teaching teams and students) with collaborating entities.

ApS can be incorporated into teaching through the creation of innovative learning environments with a perspective of social involvement:

It is incorporated as an educational methodology in any area of the university curriculum. It always involves academic learning, which necessarily involves a link to the teaching plan of the subject and requires planning, monitoring and evaluation of learning. The curricular link of the ApS can be through seminars, interdisciplinary projects, end-of-subject work, curricular practices, TFG, TFM and extracurricular academic activities, among others.

The UPF has a catalog of services for social entities that are offered from the different subjects that work with the ApS methodology, such as the creation of a social enterprise plan, the organization of events or the English-Spanish translation service, among others.

The ApS can be incorporated into teaching through the creation of innovative learning environments with the perspective of social implication (OECD, 2017):

It can be incorporated as an educational methodology in any field of the university curriculum. It always involves academic learning, which needs to be linked to the syllabus of the subject, requiring planning, monitoring and evaluation of the learning processes.  Linking ApS to the curriculum can be done through:

  • Transversal and interdisciplinary projects and initiatives
  • Specific subjects
  • Curricular training
  • Bachelor's Degree Final Projects (TFG) and Master’s Degree Final Projects (TFM)
  • Social transference projects and activities

The UPF opens the application for the PlaCLIK grant scheme every year, through which the ApS projects can apply to obtain finance.

UPF Solidarity Bulletin

Bulletin about educational innovation with the social perspective of the UPF. Social innovation in teaching is developed from different aspects: the training of teaching staff, teaching innovation with social perspective and social transfer to the environment.

Centre for the Promotion of ApS

A space that generates initiatives and confluence of actions aimed at facilitating and strengthening the ApS projects, made up of different institutions and entities. Its purpose is to promote the study, dissemination and development of ApS projects.

Service-Learning Network of the Catalan Universities

The ApS(U)CAT Network is made up of faculty members from all Catalan universities, and it is also open to the entities with whom ApS projects are developed, as well as interested students. In 2010, the Network developed the Declaration of the Service-Learning Network of the Catalan Universities (ApS(U)CAT), which agreed on the definition and orientation of the ApS.
