The Cinetmosfera film club is organising a special screening of the film 'En construcción' (José Luis Guerin, 2001), with the presence of editor Mercedes Álvarez and assistant director Abel García Roure. After the film, Álvarez and García Roure will talk with the Cinetmosfera directors and with Ricardo Íscar, lecturer at the UPF.

Synopsis. In an emblematic working-class neighbourhood in Barcelona, threatened by an urban development plan, the construction of a block of flats is undertaken. The story deals with the transformation of Barcelona's Chinatown through the lives of several people who live in parallel: an old sailor looking for a room in this neighbourhood, a young prostitute and her boyfriend, and some Moroccan workers obsessed with the existence of God.

Mercedes Álvarez. In 1997 he directed the short fiction film El viento africano. Since 1998 she has focused on documentaries and took part in the Master's Degree in Creative Documentary Filmmaking at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. She worked as an editor on José Luis Guerín's film En construcción. In 2004 she directed her debut feature documentary El cielo gira, which won numerous prestigious festivals and was shown in many cinemas around the world. Now settled in Catalonia, in 2007 she began making the feature film Mercado de futuros, co-produced by Televisión Española and Televisión de Cataluña, which premiered in 2011 and has been selected for the most important film festivals in the world. In 2006 she won the Terenci Moix International Award for the best newcomer of the year for El cielo gira.

Abel García Roure. He is a screenwriter and film director. He holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication from the UPF and a Master's degree in Creative Documentary from the UPF. Since his debut in 1999, as the first assistant director of En Construcción, he has combined writing and directing with working as an assistant director in cinema. His film Una cierta verdad premiered in 2009. As an assistant director, his most outstanding works are: Murieron por encima de sus posibilidades, La Leyenda del Tiempo and Cravan vs Cravan by Isaki Lacuesta, El Rayo by Fran Araujo & E. De Nova, Volar y Nadar by Carla Subirana, Mercado de futuros and El cielo gira by Mercedes Álvarez.
