Barcelona. The main objective of this thesis is to analyze, in the selected cinematographic expressions, the visual motif of the whale in relation to the political metaphor of Leviathan. I suggest that the presence of this visual motive shows a continuity of the Leviathan State paradigm in the western political imaginary that questions the alleged overcoming of violence as a legitimate means in the current capitalist democracy. Somehow, if the monster is always lurking, we continue to live in a deep politics of fear. And where there is fear there will be no peace.
