Abstract

50 maneras de morir. Cine negro y poética de la fatalidad, written by Violeta Kovacsics, is a book about film noir, a genre so elusive that it is difficult to keep track of it throughout the history of cinema: the noir escapes like a false culprit on the run, hidden among dark alleys. It can be an immersion in the world of crime, but it is also an aesthetic of chiaroscuros, flashbacks and voiceovers, and above all it is a sad mood, defined by the tragic sign of fatality.

This volume pursues the tracks of film noir throughout history, from its period of splendor, in the late classic Hollywood, to its most recent mutations. It does so by investigating the unbreakable link between gender and fatality, which appears in noir at the hand of the ambivalent figure of the femme fatale, the cracked morality of its heroes or their disastrous and snatched outcomes.
