The Josep Fontana Chair aims to be the place of reference where it is possible to find the maximum information about the historian, his work (books, articles, websites, audio, etc.) and his public activity. Thereby, it promotes the study, research, debate and dissemination of history, in the broadest sense, bearing in mind its social and social function.
Josep Fontana i Lázaro (Barcelona, 1931-2018), one of the great renovators of Spanish historiography, has been for many the most eminent Catalan historian of the last fifty years, and the translation of some of his books into several languages consolidated him as a figure of international renown.
“Fontana always supported young researchers and this objective, among others, such as the historiographical debate and on the issues of the contemporary world, will always be present in the activity of the Chair", says its director, Josep M. Delgado.
