Biography note

Joan R Masclans is a Medical Doctor (graduated by the Autonomous University of Barcelona -UAB-) specialized in critical care medicine by the Hospital Vall d’Hebron (via MIR) and holds a PhD also by the UAB. Head of Critical Care Department at Hospital del Mar. Member of the critical care patients (2020-21) and pharmacology treatment for Covid patients (2020-) designed by the Catalan Health Department (CatSalut). Former president of the Catalan Society of Critical Care (SOCMIC).

Head of GREPAC (critical illness research group) at IMIM, and Professor of Medicine since 2015 (AQU- advanced research accreditation -University Quality Agency of Catalonia). PSMAR Teaching Director. Author of more than 100 articles in ISI-indexed journals (N Engl J Med, Lancet Respir Med, Intensive Care Med, Am J Respir Crit Care Med, Chest, etc). H-factor (google academic:32). PI of the 4 competitive research grants in the last 5 years (FIS and Marató TV3) and co-researcher of 12 other projects. Mentor of 12 Doctoral Thesis at UAB and UPF (4 in process). Delegate of the manager of the Hospital del Mar and UPF rector to coordinate the curriculum of the new degree of Medicine of the UPF (starting sept 21).

• ARDS biomarkers and metabolomic analysis. Study of non-invasive respiratory support on the evolution of acute respiratory failure. Studies in covid and non-covid patients.
• Muscle dysfunction in critically ill patients.
• Humanizing ICU. Effects of psycho-physiological analysis of different actions in ICU patients.
• Microbiome alterations in critically ill patients.
• PK/PD studies.
