Last 19 July, IRB Barcelona alumni Ana Janic (Serbia, 1978), Group Leader in the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences at the Pompeu Fabra University (DCEXS- UPF) in Barcelona, was presented the 2019 IRB Barcelona Alumni Excellence Award.

The jury for the prize —formed by senior IRB Barcelona researchers with expertise in several fields— acknowledged “the exceptional quality of her research achievements, and for the level of seniority that she has demonstrated at every step in her research career”.

A piece of advice that Ana gives the PhD community is: “You can do it. Try different things. Go out of your comfort zone, and you will learn a lot of things. And always remember why science is fun”.

Supported by Eppendorf, the IRB Barcelona Alumni Excellence Award consists of a commemorative certificate, a prize of € 2,000, and an expenses-paid trip to IRB Barcelona to give a plenary talk in the Barcelona Biomed seminar series.
