The latest official data published concerning the 2021 MIR call reveal that UPF is the first university in Spain regarding the grades obtained.

58.6% of the graduates in Medicine who took the 2021 MIR exams come in the first quartile, the so-called “strong group” of the best marks in the classifications, while 27.1% were placed in the middle group, and just 14.3% are in the “weak group” (those with a percentile equal to or lower than 27).

The evolution of the students who sit the MIR exams in the year they graduate has been favourable in recent years. The percentage placed in the first quartile has always been above 50%. These good results are crucial for them to more easily access their medical speciality and destination of preference.

Joaquim Gea, dean of the UPF Faculty of Life and Health Sciences highlights: “above all, what most satisfies us about these good results is that they are excellent for the majority of students of Medicine at the University and that they are maintained over time. This encourages us to continue working on a quality study programme, aimed mainly at training good professionals, encompassing healthcare as well as research and teaching aspects, beyond contributing to achieving good grades in the MIR exam, which is also a reason for us to feel satisfied”.

In addition to the recognition of UPF Medicine studies that these good MIR results represent, Gea adds: “we want to continuously introduce elements to progressively improve medical studies, which contribute to the comprehensive training of physicians that the country needs”. In this regard, he explained that work is underway to improve the humanistic training of professionals, as well as training related to primary care.
