UPF, for the 5th year in a row, is the highest performing university in the Spanish State, according to the U-ranking

In this classification, produced by the IVIE and the BBVA Foundation, UPF ranks first for research, second for teaching, and fourth for innovation and technological development.

According to U-Ranking 2017, produced by the BBVA Foundation and the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (IVIE), Pompeu Fabra University is the highest performing university in the Spanish State.

To date, UPF has held first position in all five editions (2013-2017) of the ranking published, which evaluates the teaching, research and innovation and technological development of the Spanish universities based on the analysis of 25 indicators.

This classification ranks the universities according to their performance, and to be able to compare them, it corrects the effects of their different dimension. It analyses a total of 61 universities in the Spanish State, 48 public and 13 private, and covers 93% of the Spanish University system, in terms of number of undergraduate students.

Globally, UPF ranks as the highest performing University in the State, with a rating of 1.8, which improves on the 1.6 it scored last year. In second place is the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, with 1.5, and third, Carlos III University of Madrid, Rovira i Virgili of Tarragona, and Polytechnic of Valencia, all three scoring 1.4.

By activities, UPF excels in Research, where it occupies first place, with 2.5, well ahead of the universities that come in second position, the Autonomous University of Barcelona and Rovira i Virgili University, with 1.7. In Teaching, UPF is in the group of universities that ranked second, with a score of 1.3; while for innovation and technological development, it is in fourth position, scoring 2.6.

Catalonia continues to rank as the autonomous region with the highest performance, with a total of 119 points (with an average for Spain of 100), ahead of Cantabria (117), the Valencian Community (109), the Balearic Islands (108) and the Community of Navarra (107).

Ranking by degrees

In the "Choose the university", taking into account all the provinces of Spain, and keeping the presets that are awarded to teaching, research, and innovation and technology transfer, seventeen degrees UPF appear in the first position .

These degrees in Translation, Applied Languages, Humanities, Global Studies, Journalism, Audiovisual Communication, Advertising and Public Relations, Law, Labor Relations, Criminology and Public Prevention Policies, Law / Business Administration, International Business Economics, Economics, Political Science and Public Administration, Human Biology, Bioinformatics and Medicine.

Ranking by total volume of results

The rankings, which can be customized by degrees, also includes a second classification (U-Ranking Volume) that takes into account the total volume of results (teaching, research and innovation and technological development) of the Spanish universities, and in which the centre plays an important role. This list is topped by the Complutense University (index of 4.2), Barcelona (3.7) and Valencia (3.2), while UPF occupies 18th position, with a score of 1.3.

Finally, the ranking makes various comparisons between the results from the two classifications (general and by volume), as well as with the results of the Shanghai ranking, considered one of the international rankings of reference.
