Today, 28 April 2017, the rector’s office at Pompeu Fabra University is hosting a meeting of the thematic group of the European University Association (EUA), which will focus on discussing the links between research and teaching.

Manel Jiménez, a lecturer at the Department of Communication and academic director of the Center for Learning Innovation and Knowledge (CLIK) at Pompeu Fabra University, is a member of this group, and is participating actively at the meeting.

Its main goals are to show examples of good practices around the challenges that were detected at the first meeting of the committee, and to analyse the benefits and obstacles regarding their implementation.

Some of the challenges on which the participants are working are the parity between teaching and research and the incentives to provide quality teaching; the creation of teaching models focusing on the figure of the student/researcher, or the creation of study plans committed to research.

Those attending the meeting, who during the work session were visited by Jaume Casals, UPF rector, represent the following universities: Pompeu Fabra, Berlin (Germany) Sheffield (England, United Kingdom), College Cork (Ireland), Sapienza of Rome (Italy), Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris (France), Boras (Sweden) and the Silesian of Technology (Poland).

Three meetings within the framework of the European Learning & Teaching Forum

The session to take place at the rector’s office of UPF is the second by this thematic group, coordinated by Eva Inés Obergfell, lecturer at the Humboldt University of Berlin, who has scheduled a total of three meetings to look in greater depth into the link between research and teaching. The first took place on 16 March in the capital of Germany, with the presence of professor Manel Jiménez representing UPF.

The European University Association (EUA), the representative organization of the universities and the national rectors’ conferences of 47 European countries, is to hold the 1st European Learning & Teaching Forum on 28 and 29 September 2017 at the Pierre et Marie Curie University in Paris, at which the group that is meeting today at UPF will present some of its results.
