About 30% of UPF graduates find a job through the University’s career services

This is one of the main data revealed by the 6th edition of the job placement study of the graduates of the Catalan universities, drafted by the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency, which improves by more than three points on the results of the previous edition.

Two weeks ago, the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU Catalunya) presented the 6th edition of the study of job placements of the Catalan universities, drafted with the collaboration of the universities’ boards of trustees and which shows the results obtained for the university graduates of the 2012-2013 academic year.

The report shows that UPF stands out as a university that facilitates job placement given that 29.2% of its graduates of the 2012-2013 academic year stated that they found work thanks to the University’s own mechanisms, through external academic internships or services such as the employment exchange. This figure stands at more than 12 points above the average for the Catalan university system.

Moreover, the study also shows that the speed with which UPF graduates find work has increased compared to the previous edition, which was released in 2014 and referred to the graduates of the 2009-2010 academic year. 78% get their first job within three months of completing their studies, six points higher than in 2014, and 90% within a year.

The rate of employment also increases by 7 points in comparison to 2014 and stands at 90%. By contrast, the rate of unemployment is 4% and the rate of inactive persons (people who are neither working nor looking for work), is 6%. With regard to the type of contract, 56% of UPF graduates have an indefinite contract and 85% are working full time, six and seven points higher than the average for the Catalan university system, respectively.

Finally, concerning the roles of UPF graduates, 86% are working within the world of the university, eleven points more than in 2014 and 6 points above the average of the system.

9 out of every 10 would study again at UPF

The report also analyses the education received and the students’ satisfaction with the institution where they studied. 91% of graduates claimed that they would repeat their experience at Pompeu Fabra University, while close to 70% would repeat the degree they took at the time.

The most valued aspects in relation to the training received are teamwork, training in theory, written expression and critical thinking.

The first survey on studies deployed within the framework of the EHEA

Between the months of January and March 2017 AQU Catalunya conducted a survey of the bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctoral studies graduates of three years ago from the Catalan universities in order to learn about their employment status and their assessment of their university education. This survey is conducted every three years, and this year is the sixth edition.

It is the first time that bachelor’s degree graduates have been surveyed since until now only students of long degrees, short degrees, engineering and architecture degrees had been surveyed. In total there were 27,715 respondents, 48.1% of the reference population. In the case of UPF, a total of 847 graduates were interviewed out of a total of 1,821, that is to say 46.5%.
