With the UPF Partner Day, Pompeu Fabra University will have the chance to deepen and strengthen ties with its international partners and university networks, as well as working on new collaboration and mobility agreements, taking advantage of the European Association of International Education (EAIE) conference, which is taking place from 13th-16th September at Barcelona's Gran Via Fira venue.

The 2022 EAIE (European Association for International Education) Conference, which will bring together people responsible for international relations matters from universities around the world, marks a return to the association's annual meeting after a two-year cancellation as a result of the pandemic. In fact, the conference (held annually) was scheduled for the Catalan capital for 2020, and after two years, it eventually is going ahead with renewed energy, new ideas and new projects.

Sara López: The UPF Partner Day will be a unique chance for the different faculties, schools and affiliated centres to develop relationships with our partners from around the world. It is a task that we usually do within the International Relations Service, and this time the coordinators and directors of different centre can do this in a direct, fluid way".

Sara López: "UPF Partner Day wants to take advantage of this unique opportunity to welcome a great number of participants, almost 160 people, who are representatives from the field of international relations from around the world. By coming to the Barcelona conference they will take advantage of this chance to get to know the University first hand"

"Created in 1989, the EAIE is one of the most important professional higher education organisations which has been key in the implementation of the "European Higher Education Area", says Toni Luna, Vice-rector of Internationalisation at UPF. According to him, "The University has always had important links with EAIE and different people from Pompeu Fabra have been there or are involved in it. In fact, this year, our head of the International Relations Service, Sara López, has been chosen as new vice president of this organisation, and will take up her new role at the closing plenary of the congress on 16th September".

UPF Partner Day will be an opportunity to strengthen relationships with international partners

Sara López explains that, through the UPF Partner Day, the University "wants to take advantage of this unique opportunity to welcome a great number of participants, almost 160 people, who are representatives from the field of international relations from around the world. By coming to the Barcelona conference they will take advantage of this chance to get to know the University first hand".

The programme will include: an institutional welcome (9.30h) held by Toni Luna, Vice-rector of Internationalisation; meetings with international mobility coordinators and directors of the different UPF faculties and centres; guided tours of the facilities at the three different campuses (Ciutadella, Poblenou and Mar), with the chance to get to know various emblematic projects in the academic and cultural field, such as the UPF Art Track itinerary or the Workshop area, and a closing farewell from the Rector Oriol Amat (16.15h)

An essential part of the day will be the networking sessions, to reinforce, deepen and establish new connections with university partners. According to Sara López, "the UPF Partner Day will be a unique chance for the different faculties, schools and affiliated centres to develop relationships with our partners from around the world. It is a task that we usually do within the International Relations Service, and this time the coordinators and directors of different centre can do this in a direct, fluid way".

The 2022 EAIE conference will introduce participants to the Catalan university system and reinforce the association's strategy

The inauguration of the 32nd Annual Conference of the European Association for International Education, on the morning of 14th September, at the Barcelona Gran Via Fira venue (which represents the largest European international education event held in this space) includes a welcome from Gemma Geis, Minister for Research and Universities from the Catalan government (Generalitat de Catalunya), which will highlight the importance of the Catalan university system. Thereafter, rectors from the different Catalan universities will take a tour of the fair, among which will be Oriol Amat, representing UPF.

Over the course of the EAIE event, under the title "The future in full colour", the association's 2026 strategy will be discussed, focussing on building an ecosystem with new ideas and practices to improve the field of internationalisation. Future lines of action will also be developed: "After the break caused by the pandemic, we are once again keen to show all the virtues that the internationalisation of education has to offer. Without doubt, the concerns, interests and motivations for international education still prevail"; highlights Sara López, who, after two years being vice president of the EAIE, will go on to take up the presidency in 2024.
