The new exhibition invites visitors to match eight works of UPF heritage with 3 out of 24 world works.

Before the current health alarm prevented us from visiting museums in person, UPF already had two virtual exhibitions on Google Arts & Culture “UPF Art Track” and  “The arts confabulate”, and was already committed to this format, along with the major international art institutions.

“With the presentation of this third exhibition, coinciding with International Museum Day, we seek to continue making the University’s valuable artistic heritage available to everyone. And this time we are doing so in a friendly, fun way, through a 33-piece puzzle inciting the visitor to get lost in the labyrinth of art”, explains Javier Aparicio Maydeu, full professor of Literature at the Department of Humanities, UPF Culture delegate and promoter of UPF Art Track.

An invitation to play with the artistic universe through University heritage

UPF Art Track offers a 33-piece puzzle - What if we enter the labyrinth of art?” has been designed as a cross-disciplinary, interactive game where virtual visitors must match a selection of eight works of UPF heritage (belonging to artists such as Tàpies, Saura, Hollan, Subirachs and Cabellut), with 24 works of the history of world art. There are codices with miniature illustrations, skyscrapers, ziggurats, a virgin by Van Eyck, a drip by Pollock, Fra Angelico, Japanese drawings, a Chinese calligraphic poem and the Parthenon.

The user must establish relationships between these two areas and create “art series” based on such criteria as the theme dealt with, the technique or the style used. “The game can be played by both a parent who wants to show their child the art world and by a student of art or humanities who wants to justify their reasons for choosing a certain combination”, Javier Aparicio Maydeu explains.

Google Arts & Culture has created a website to commemorate International Museum Day, which includes several cultural initiatives by institutions around the world, including the new UPF Art Track exhibition.
