The project SIGN-HUB: Preserving, researching and fostering the linguistic, historical and cultural heritage of European deaf signing communities with an integral resource (2016-2020), is a research and innovation action that belongs to the Horizon 2020 programme led by Josep Quer ICREA research professor with the Department of Translation and Language Sciences (DTCL) at UPF.

“In fact, it is the second periodical publication to exist in the world dedicated strictly to the linguistics of sign languages”

Formal and Experimental Advances in Sign Language Theory (FEAST), is a new academic journal in English that compiles the studies presented at the FEAST congress, a specific conference on research into formal and experimental  linguistics of sign languages of which Quer is a member of the Organizing Committee, and the body responsible for disseminating the research of the SIGN-HUB European project. “In fact, it is the second periodical publication to exist in the world dedicated strictly to the linguistics of sign languages”, states Quer.

The new journal is designed as a tool for the dissemination, rapid, open access publication of the studies (invited conferences, communications and posters) presented at the FEAST conference in a medium-sized format (maximum 10 pages) so that the information circulates freely and does not prevent more developed versions  from appearing in other publications. The latest edition of the FEAST 2018 was held in June, from 18 to 20, in Venice.

The idea is for it to appear the same year as the FEAST congress is held (usually in June). Each issue of the Journal will have specific editors that will change for each edition. The FEAST scientific committee will act as an indirect editorial board selecting contributions to the conference. The editors perform a second review of the papers submitted.

Quer says that “in the future, our intention is that signed summaries of the articles in video format will be incorporated to make them more accessible to signers who are interested”.
