Professor Lluís Codina appointed researcher of the year at the Roblón 2020 prizes

Currently the director of the Observatory of Cybermedia and coordinator of the Journalism and Digital Documentation Research Unit, he has received the prize awarded by Revista Latina de Comunicación Social for being one of the most important active researchers and a reference in Spanish-speaking scientific communication and documentation.

The Advisory Board of Revista Latina de Comunicación Social, at its ordinary meeting of March 2021, agreed to award the  Roblón 2020 prizes in recognition of the talent, perseverance and discipline of Spanish and international researchers in Communication Sciences and related disciplines.

Lluís Codina, a professor at the UPF Department of Communication, won the category of researcher of the year in Communication, “for being one of the most important active researchers and a reference in Spanish-speaking scientific communication and documentation today”, stated the Advisory Board in recognition of his work, which it summarized: “His lines of research cover measuring the information quality of websites, SEO positioning, digital native media and cybermedia optimization. In 2020 he had an h-index of 32 on Google Scholar Metrics (up until March 2021), with more than 35 scientific publications -this year alone-”

Observatory of Cybermedia and knowledge transfer

The Board of the Roblón prizes made special mention of Lluís Codina’s work as director of the Observatory of Cybermedia and of the Research Group on Digital Documentation and Interactive Communication (DigiDoc) at the UPF Department of Communication, as well as his blog through which he transfers knowledge on digital media, research in social sciences and science evaluation”.

In the words of professor Codina: “this award has made me very happy and I greatly appreciate it both due to the prestige of Revista Latina de Comunicación Social and for mentioning the Observatory of Cybermedia in its justification as it is a project in which I could not do anything without my colleagues, including my doctoral students, so it is really in recognition of genuine teamwork”.

Codina is also grateful for the mention by the Board of his personal blog, which is mainly aimed at young researchers, “motivated by the research master’s degree I have coordinated in recent years, which has made me realize the importance of methodologies”, Codina adds.

Lluís Codina is a professor at the Faculty of Communication, on the bachelor’s degrees in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication. He is coordinator of the University Master’s degree in Social Communication (MUCS) at the Department of Communication, and coordinator of the Journalism and Digital Documentation Research Unit (UPF). He also teaches at the Barcelona School of Management - UPF. He is co-founder and member of the editorial board of the academic journal Hipertext.net.

He is currently second PI of the project “Creació i contingut interactiu en la comunicació d’informació audiovisual: audiències, disseny, sistemes i formats” (Creation and interactive content in audiovisual communication: audiences, design, systems and formats). CSO2015-64955-C4-2-R (MINECO/ERDF), Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.

He has published some 200 papers (in academic journals and journalistic publications) and six books (as author or co-author), as well as several chapters in special issues. Some of his most important publications of recent years are Navigation Design and SEO for Content-Intensive Websites: A Guide for an Efficient Digital Communication (Oxford: Elsevier-Chandos, 2017), “Newsonomics in the Interactive Era: Dimensions of Sustainability in the News Media” (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018), ”Off-page SEO and link building: General strategies and authority transfer in the digital news media” (Profesional de la información 2019), “What is new media? The views of 70 Hispanic experts” (Revista Latina de Comunicación Social, 2019) and “SEO and the digital news media: From the workplace to the classroom” (Comunicar, 2020).
