Curricula :
Josep Ferrer i Riba is a tenured lecturer in Civil Law at UPF and was Dean of the
Faculty of Law (2006-2010).
He obtained a Doctorate in Law from the University of Barcelona (1989).
He has spent research stages at the universities of Göttingen (1986-87), Yale (1993-94),
Bologna (1999) and Louvain (2003), and has taught as a visiting lecturer at the universities of
Puerto Rico (1997 and 2003) and Haifa (2009).
His main research areas are not-for-profit law, family law and Catalan civil law. He has
jointly edited two works on legal commentary on the Catalan Family Code and the fourth book of the
Civil Code, which are benchmark reference works for the study and application of Catalan civil law.
In the international arena, he has participated in European projects financed by the European
Union (Judicial Cooperation in Family Law), by the British Academy (Marital Agreements and Private
Autonomy) and by private European foundations and the scientific office of the Max Planck Institute
in Hamburg (European Foundation Project).
He is a member of the Council, the Permanent Committee and the Governing Council of the
Catalonia Private Law Observatory and has been a key participant in the preparatory work for the
Catalan legislation on professional colleges and books on the Catalan civil code on the individual,
the family, legal persons and successions
mortis causa.
