The mater's programme in Translation Studies is part of the EMT network (European Master's in Translation)

Presentation

This master's degree is open to graduate students who are interested in translation and reflection on translation. In its research track, it prepares for access to two of the Department's doctoral fields, those of Translation Studies and Literary Reception and Translation. In its academic track, it combines the theoretical and the applied foci. In its professional specialisation track, it provides training in different (humanistic and literary, scientific and technical, legal and economic) specialised fields of translation and in interpretation.

Objectives

To train specialists in translation studies based on their previous degree course (academic and research training) and to train specialised translators and interpreters.

Teaching load of the course types  

  • Introduction to research
    It is compulsory to take 20 corresponding to the master's degree final project credits and 10 research methodology credits.

  • Academic training
    It is compulsory to take 10 master's degree final project credits and a further 10 methodology credits.

  • Professional specialisation
    It is compulsory to take 19 internship credits, 6 master's degree final project credits and 5 methodology credits. 

Contents

Translation research methodology. Translation practice methodology. Translation theory. Linguistic analysis and translation. Translation tools. Specialised discourse and translation. Specialised translation: Scientific and technical, legal and economic translation, humanistic and literary. Audiovisual Translation. Interpretation. 

Internship

In the professional specialisation course type, students must take 20 internship credits, which are done in companies and institutions with which the University has arranged collaboration agreements.

Career prospects

General translation. Specialised translation. Interpretation. Linguistic mediation in institutions. The teaching of translation and interpretation. The teaching of foreign languages. Research into general and specialised translation.
