Presentation
The great variety of tasks carried out by the public sector and the new relations between civil society and the political system have generated specific functional needs and, therefore, a need for professionals who can undestand, analyse and design measures for action in the complex network of public and private organisations of our society.
The objective of this degree is to train graduates with high-level skills in public administration, policy and institutions; professionals who are qualified to operate in the area of policy, administration, economics and law, flexible and adaptable in the area of public policy, whether in the public or private sector.
Teaching objectives
The syllabus is basically centred around three main pillars. Political Science (political behaviour, political theory, Spanish and Catalan politics, public policies, etc.). These subjects account for the bulk of the course; Economics (especially public sector economics, international economics and public treasury), and Law, especially public law (constitutional, administrative law, European Union and International law). In addition, students also take other fundamental subjects such as history and sociology. Instrumental subjects are also important, including statistics, and quantitative and qualitative social research techniques.
The third and fourth years include a wide range of elective subjects. The degree is completed by work-study periods, made possible through the cooperation of some of Catalonia's main public sector institutions and companies.

There is a wide range of professional openings for graduates of this degree: management positions in the public administration; the diplomatic corps and the technical bureaus of public institutions; in market and public opinion research, in company-institution relations; study and technical units in policy and social organisations; management of non-profit organisations; electoral marketing; public relations and communication, and policy analysis in the media.
Specialisation
Work-study: in the final year, students can either opt for a practical work experience period spent in an appropriate institution or company, or a research dissertation. In both cases, the University establishes a tutorial system for guidance, monitoring and assessment purposes. Evaluation takes place in the third trimester. These subjects are compulsory and as such are worth six credits.
