Teaching Experience

I started as an English-language teaching assistant at the University of Lleida in 1991 before teaching Spanish part-time at the University of Manchester (UK) in 1994. From 1995 to 2002 I taught modern languages, linguistics, research and study skills at the University of Lincoln (UK) where I was also languages coordinator and responsible for distance learning programmes and university exchanges in Spain. I came full circle and moved to Catalonia with my family in 2002. I joined the PEI in 2004 where I am now Academic Coordinator. In a previous existence, amongst other things, I co-edited a book called Faith and Fanaticism: Religious Fervor in Early Modern Spain, and wrote a review of Mujeres Directivas: promoción profesional en España y el Reino Unido.

What does teaching languages mean to you?

Coming from a country which places little value on knowledge of foreign languages I really know what people are missing out on in terms of their personal and professional development. I think the language class is extremely important, but I also try to help students acquire the skills to become lifelong language learners. I hope to be able to contribute in some way to people’s progress so that they can gain access to this enriching experience.
