Mariano Torcal

Full Professor in Political Science at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona and Spanish National Cooordinator of the European Social Survey.
PhD by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and PhD by the Ohio State University. He has published many articles in national and international specialized journals such as Comparative Political Studies and the British Journal of Political Science. In 1997 the American Political Science Asociation (APSA) granted him the second prize for the Luebbert Prize for the best article in Comparative Politics. The Spanish Political Science Association has also granted the prize for the best article published in 2003. He has contributed in or authored several books in the field.

He was the chair of the Department and the PhD Program coordinator for the Political and Social Science Department at the Pompeu Fabra University until June 2007.
His last books, Ciudadanos, asociaciones y participación política en España (with José Ramón Montero and Joan Font) and Elecciones Generales 2004, (with José Ramón Montero and Ignacio Lago) have been published in Spain in 2006 and 2007.
He is most interested in: Political Behavior, Political Culture and Political Attitudes; Social and Political Participation in New Democracies.
