Scientists and journalists share the task of spreading science in a world where people is more and more interested in technology, genetics, nature or other science subjects.

The researcher and marine biologist Pere Renom gave an upset to his life to dedicate himself to the scientific spreading in a program called ‘Quèquicom' in the Catalonian public television. He swap his lab coat and the laboratory for the micro and cameras and, although his new work imposes daily challenges to him, he feels well with his new public personality.

THE PROGRAM

Quèquicom' is a TV program broadcast every Wednesday night (22:00h) at the Catalonian channel C33. The aim of the program is to give a basic knowledge to the audience in order to understand the science related to the society and making the communication between scientists and people easier. They also try to get people more interested on science and to get they used to it as a way of understanding the reality and as a way to live better.

Every week three reporters introduce public to several aspects of health, nature, technology and basic sciences and the host does different demonstrations and experiments from the set. The program has different sections which includes: Scientists and Experts and their discoveries and inventions, “popular science” as seasons, field evolution or farm animals, and also a cartoon of a little girl explaining some curiosities and science details.

Carl Sagan, communicating science to the world

Television is one of the most powerful means to popularize science. Carl Sagan played a key role in this important field. He was a remarkable astronomer and astrophysicist who contributed to most of the unmanned space missions that explored our solar system. Moreover he helped people to understand science thanks to ‘Cosmos. A personal voyage'. It was a television series that he narrated, co-wrote and co-produced. ‘Cosmos' covered a wide range of scientific subjects and was first broadcast in 1980. Since then it has been broadcast in 60 countries and seen by more than 600 million people according to NASA Office of Space Science. He was one of the most effective communicators the world has recently know. Through his series was able to introduce his audience to some of the most complicated scientific issues. The clarity and simplicity of his explanations is his best legacy.
