In a context of globalisation and ever increasing mobility such as the present, and in the framework of the European Higher Education Area, Pompeu Fabra University is shaping up as a multilingual university: Catalan, Spanish and English are its working languages. Through various studies, surveys and forms, over the years the University has gathered an exhaustive set of data on the sociolinguistic situation at UPF.
Knowledge and use of various languages is a cross-cutting feature and a central element of the University's proposals for quality and innovation in teaching and research. UPF's aim is to help to shape a multilingual environment which, starting out from the preservation and promotion of the Catalan language and identity, will allow it to create favourable conditions for linguistic and cultural exchange, and for the personal enrichment of all the people comprising the university community at UPF.
The video which you can view here below is a clear example of this intercultural and interpersonal experiment. In this case, all the people recounting their experiences share an interest in learning Catalan and integrating themselves into our culture. In 2008-2009 UPF received more than 1,500 foreign students.
