GRITIM-UPF Director as Visiting Professor at CRÉQC, Université du Québec, Montréal
Ricard Zapata-Barrero, Director of GRITIM-UPF, is currently on sabbatical from his position as Professor of Political Theory at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He has taken up a year-long position as a Visiting Professor at the Chair de Recherche du Canada en Études Québécoises et Canadiennes (CRÉQC) at the Université du Québec à Montréal.
He is working on a number of projects dealing with intercultural diversity policies and cities. One of them is a book that he is editing together with the Director of CRÉQC, Alain-G. Gagnon under the title Monitoring Interculturalism in Cities: From Concept to Policy Implementation and its Measurements. This will be subsidized by the Obra Social "La Caixa" and will contain chapters by renowned scholars such as T. Caponio, F. Rocher, Ph. Wood, A. Ludwinek, A. Wagner, I. Guidikova, A. Triandafyllidou, and A. Harell. A seminar will take place on 12 th April 2013 in Montreal regarding this topic.
Furthermore, Zapata-Barrero, in partnership with the Barcelona City Council, is comparing the cities of Montreal and Barcelona as regards the experience and good practices that they have in place regarding interculturality. This effort will enable him to recognise and disseminate the good practices in Montreal's cultural and diversity policies that could be emulated in Barcelona and Catalunya's cultural diversity governance and vice-versa. This exchange also falls under the premise of the Spanish Network of Intercultrual Cities (RECI) that is supported by the Council of Europe and the European Commission. In the framework of the DIVERSITY Project, he will be working on the development of the indicators that could be used to measure intercultural governance in cities.
Finally, he is working on the framework of a new research project dealing with cultural policies, diversity and national identity, taking Montreal and Quebec's cultural policies and best practices as case studies. He is also preparing a number of conferences to disseminate outcomes in universities in Kingston, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City and Toronto.
